The Melbourne Cup is yet to be raced, but one Newcastle man is already celebrating a mammoth win, after taking out $1.9 million in the lottery.
The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased his division one winning 18-game QuickPick from Mayfield East Newsagency.
“I was watching television on Sunday morning while my wife was looking at the results and checking my ticket. She said ‘I think we’ve got four numbers – we might win $47!,” he said.
“Then after double checking she said ‘hold on, we’ve got six numbers!’ and that’s when it sunk in that we’d actually won division one.
“We’re still numb even after a very hastily organised all-day family party that’s left us all with hangovers today.
