FORMER TAMWORTH MAN WINS ACT AUSTRALIAN OF THE YEAR

Former Tamworth man and NRL legend, Alan Tongue, has been named the A-C-T’s 20-17 Australian of the Year.
Since his retirement from the Canberra Raiders in 20-11, the rugby league player has dedicated his life to mentoring juvenille offenders and helping to combat domestic violence.
Tongue also established a rehabilitation program to equip young people with life skills, which has been rolled out in youth and adult jails across the A-C-T.
The National Australian of the Year Awards will be announced in Canberra on January 25.
