TAMWORTH LEFT OFF THE LIST FOR PARLIAMENTARY INQUIRY INTO PFAS CONTAMINATION

Tamworth Regional Council has expressed its frustration after the city was left off the list, for a parliamentary inquiry into PFAS contamination.

It emerged in 2016 that Tamworth’s airport had low levels of PFAS present, following 32 years under Commonwealth control.

But the newly-announced inquiry will look solely at defence sites.

“We’ve asked the Commonwealth to provide us with assistance and we’ve been left with an answer of no, you’re the landowner you deal with it.”

The council has spent more than $120,000 to investigate the issue, and says the cost should NOT fall back onto ratepayers.

The chair of the inquiry could not be reached for comment.
