LABOR DAY PARADE IN 1916

The National Film and Sound Archive has released a film depicting Tamworth’s Labor Day parade in 1916.
Captured 100 years ago to the day, marching bands, horse-drawn carts and vehicles can be seen parading down Peel Street.
The 1916 parade was significant, with New South Wales governor Sir George Strickland at the event.
The state government had also passed the Eight Hours Act, which marked the beginning of the eight-hour working day.
