HASTINGS PUBLIC STUDENTS GO FOR GOLD
The Rio Games may have come and gone, but the Olympic spirit arrived in Port Macquarie today.
More than 300 Hastings Public School students represented 15 countries in a little athletics carnival.
There was an open ceremony and lighting of the cauldron, before kids went for gold.
“We have a variety of different activities, ranging from javelin, to relays, to running, to chook throwing, to hurdles, everything – kids are just having a normal athletics carnival but we had an Olympic twist,” Hastings Public School teacher Mel Bourne said.
The event was meant to be held alongside the Olympics in August, but was postponed several times due to rain.
