Police have used road spikes and capsicum spray to end a 90km pursuit on the mid north coast, where it is alleged speeds up to 140km/h were reached.
Just before 11pm on Friday, police were travelling on the Pacific Highway at Kundabung north of Port Macquarie, when they saw a 4WD allegedly exceeding the speed limit.
The driver failed to stop when requested by police, and a pursuit ensued.
Police tailed the 4WD for 90km until road spikes were deployed at Johns River.
The vehicle drove on for a further 5km with a deflated tyre before it stopped.
The driver then got out of the vehicle and a struggle ensued, during which police used OC spray to subdue and arrest the 41-year-old man.
After undergoing mandatory testing, he was charged with five offences, including not stopping vehicle when directed, exceeding the speed limit by more than 30km/h, and resisting an officer in execution of duty.
The man will appear in court on Tuesday 15 November.
