CFMEU FINED FOR SAFETY BREACHES AT UNIVERSITY OF NEWCASTLE

The Federal Court has slugged the CFMEU with the maximum penalty for safety breaches, that occured on a construction site at the University of Newcastle.
The infringements go back to January 2014, when a union official encouraged workers to wear shorts and short sleeved shirts, despite the Callaghan site’s covered clothing policy.
When a site manager tried to enforce the safety code, around 90 workers walked off the job.
The union has been fined $56,500.
