EPA FINES ALLIED MILLS $30, 000

The state’s Environment Protection Authority has fined Allied Mills $30,000 following two pollution incidents at its starch factory on Marius Street in Tamworth.

The first incident was in October last year, when hot water was discharged into the local storm water system.

The second incident saw untreated waste water pumped onto farmland on Scott Road in January this year, with many residents complaining of foul odours.

An EPA spokesperson says both incidents put aquatic life in the Peel River at risk.
