A man is recovering from a serious neck laceration after being attacked with a tomahawk near Newcastle.
Just before midday, an argument broke out between two people outside a Mayfield home, resulting in the 34-year-old being struck with the weapon.
He was treated by paramedics at the scene, and taken to John Hunter Hospital.
Police wish to speak to a 37-year-old man over the incident, who may be travelling in a black Hyundai bearing the New South Wales plates, AQ76RU.
They say he should not be approached, and that anyone who sees him should call triple zero immediately.
