A man has died in a car crash at Whitebridge overnight.
The 59-year-old was driving along Waran Road at around five-thirty when he lost control and slammed into a tree.
Two police officers from Lake Macquarie Local Area Command drove past the scene immediately after the crash. Despite their best attempts to save the man, he died at the scene.
Witnesses to the crash are urged to come forward.
