Taree’s Manning Gardens Public School is under investigation by the state’s Education Department, after a non-verbal autistic boy was allegedly restrained in a chair with straps and weighted vest.
The mother of the 6-year-old made a complaint in May and withdrew her son from the school.
The Department of Education today issued a statement saying that support for students with special needs has been reviewed at the school, and the Department has met the mother on several occasions to discuss her concerns.
