It was a lucky escape for one Taree man, who landed the front portion of his car into the Manning River yesterday afternoon.
Police say the 65-year-old believed his car was in reverse when he plunged over the River Street footpath and into the water.
The driver allegedly blew an alcohol reading of nearly five times the legal limit.
His license was suspended and will face Taree Local Court next month.
