ARMED MAN ARRESTED AFTER STANDOFF AT A DYERS CROSSING BUSINESS

A 76-year-old man has been arrested after entering a business on Wallanbah Road in Dyers Crossing, near Nabiac this afternoon, armed with a shotgun.

Police allege the local man threatened occupants with the fire arm just after midday, before a member of the community managed to disarm him prior to police arriving.

“When police responded they set up a perimeter and managed to contact that fellow by telephone and he eventually gave himself up to police,” said Inspector Christine George from Manning-Great Lakes Police.

Police believe the incident was in relation to a dispute over rent.

The man was taken to Forster Police Station and is assisting police with inquiries.
