The Drayton South Coal Project in the Upper Hunter has been recommended for approval by the Department of Planning and Environment.
It follows an assessment which found the area’s mining and thoroughbred industries can operate – side by side – without major impact.
The department has recommended 23 conditions to manage dust and noise, and the establishment of a liaison committee, to strengthen relations between the mine’s owners and two neighbouring horse studs.
The final decision on the project rests with the Planning Assessment Commission.
