  1. The reporter is mistaken in using the word “compensation” to describe what Dr. Keniry is investigating. The legislation that banned greyhound racing expressly provides that no compensation is payable by the government. Dr Keniry’s role is to recommend to the government of NSW how to provide “transition assistance” for people leaving the greyhound racing industry. Transition assistance is very different from compensation, as I am sure Dr. Keniry has had to explain a thousand times over to the people he is meeting with. It doesn’t help to clear up this misunderstanding when reporters are careless in their use of words.
