WEATHER: IT’S BEEN A WET AUGUST
PHOTO: Taylor Beach sunset by Robert Mcneil.
August is not traditionally a wet month. This year the heavens have opened up delivering significant winter rain to the point that almost all of northern NSW and SE QLD has received above average rain. This is due to the break down of the El Nino and the Indian Ocean Dipole going negative, meaning sea surface temperatures off NW WA are above average helping to increase atmospheric moisture which then get pushed towards eastern Australia triggering these rain events.
Things will dry out inland with a few isolated coastal showers to continue over the couple of days which will remain very cold with predominant S winds.
