The Inverell Sewage Treatment Plant will soon be doubled in size, following a $2 million loan approval, by the State Government.
Inverell Shire Council was given the opportunity to borrow the amount at a much cheaper rate due to the area’s Fit for the Future status.
“If they were to do it off their balance sheet the project wouldn’t be done for a number of years until they built up the capital reserves to undertake the project… Being able to borrow this money now at a much cheaper rate has brought forward the project and ultimately saved the ratepayer hundreds of thousands of dollars.”
The project will now go to tender.
