FERRY GOOD TIME FOR MAINTENANCE

Port Macquarie’s main vehicular ferry will be out of action for up to six weeks, when it goes in for scheduled maintenance later this month.
The move is expected to inconvenience residents living on the north shore, who will be forced to use the smaller Hibbard Ferry which will operate around the clock.
The $375,000 project will be the first major service for the 21-vehicle Settlement Point ferry since it was commissioned in 2008.
The work, which includes a major structural and mechanical overhaul, sandblasting and painting, will be undertaken by local company Birdon.
