WOMAN DIES IN CUSTODY IN THE HUNTER

A critical incident investigation has been launched after a 36-year-old woman died in custody in the Hunter overnight.

The woman was detained at about 12.45am on Monday night, after police found her walking along Wollumbi Road at Cessnock in a drunken manner.

The woman was taken to Maitland Police station and placed in a holding cell, but was found dead at about six o’clock this morning.

A Critical Incident Team will investigate the circumstances surrounding her death.

The New South Wales Police Force has expressed condolences to the woman’s family.

  1. I just wondered if this woman had type 1 diabetes which often comes across as someone who is intoxicated if having a hypo, not enough is commonly known about this condition
