A report is being prepared for the coroner, after a man was pulled unresponsive from the surf at Byron Bay this morning.
Emergency services were called to Main Beach just before 9:30, but the 50-year-old was unable to be revived.
Police are investigating whether the man may have suffered a medical episode.
A post mortem will be conducted this week.
