100 YEARS ON: FALLEN SOLDIER HONOURED AT SANDGATE

It’s known as a disastrous failure – the Battle of Fromelles during World War One.
Today marks 100 years since that brief but deadly engagement, and commemorations are being held around the world to remember the almost 2,000 Australian soldiers who lost their lives, including a humble train driver from Lake Macquarie.

I lost my Gt Uncle, Battle of The Somme, he was shot and died in London, buried in his home town Gillingham. Kent, but fought for Canadian Infantry as was living there. My Grannie’s brother… RIP William Ridley. buried in one grave yet his headstone is in another in Gillingham. logic!
