MAN DUE TO FACE COURT OVER WARATAH STANDOFF
A man has been charged following a standoff with police in Newcastle overnight.
Around 11pm on Sunday, police were contacted by a man allegedly making threats from inside a unit complex on Station Street, Waratah.
It’s alleged the man had armed himself with a knife.
The incident ended peacefully with the help of a police negotiator at around 2am .
The man was charged with a number of offences including using a weapon to avoid apprehension, and two counts of intimidating police.
He was refused bail and will appear in Newcastle local court.
