MAN JAILED OVER WILD PURSUIT THROUGH NEWCASTLE

A man has been jailed for 16 months over a wild police pursuit through Newcastle in February.
Matthew Holford was high on ice when he sped through several suburbs, ran red lights and crashed into a number of parked cars. It came to a dramatic end when the 33-year-old tried to overtake a tram and became stuck on a median strip.
Today Newcastle Local Court heard the ordeal began earlier in the night when Holford pursued a family from Lake Macquarie, and tried to run them off the road until they reached a local police station.
Holford’s solicitor told the court his client is “embarrassed by his actions” and his behaviour that night “beggars belief.”
The 30-year-old was jailed for a minimum 10 months. With time already served, he’ll be eligible for parole in December.
