The Newcastle Ocean Baths were closed today to allow the removal of broken pieces of concrete that were washed into the big pool, by last weekend’s storm.
The baths were empties this morning so the large concrete fragments could be broken down and removed.
The power of the waves generated by the storm also bent the stainless steel hand railings on the water stairway.
“The damage to the baths is an indication of how powerful the seas were last weekend,” Newcastle City Council Interim CEO Frank Cordingley said.
“Our crews have removed the concrete and will make the repairs to the railings and rear of the baths as soon as possible.”
