Voters in the federal electorate of Hunter finally have a second candidate, with a Singleton councillor putting her hand up.
Cr Ruth Rogers will stand for The Nationals, going up against Labor heavy weight Joel Fitzgibbon.
Mrs Rogers is a former citizen of the year and says she’s committed to giving back to the community.
“There’s a lot to be done in our electorate, and a number of issues that need attention.
“I’m happy to stand on my record as someone who works for their community and gets things done,” she said.
“I know that taking on a twenty-year incumbent MP will be challenging, but our votes should never be taken for granted.”
