TWO CHARGED AFTER ALTERCATION ESCALATES ON THE FAR NORTH COAST

Two people have been charged following an altercation between two groups of young people in the far north of the state.
Police say the two groups met at Rifle Range Road in Wollongbar around 2am on Saturday, after a prior altercation in Alstonville, where two girls were assaulted and a car was damaged.
During the confrontation in Wollongbar, the 16-year-old allegedly struck a 17-year-old boy in the head with a golf club, causing a deep laceration.
Another male then allegedly stomped on the 17-year-old’s head.
The 17-year-old was taken to hospital for treatment to a deep laceration and a fractured skull.
An 18-year-old was subsequently arrested and charged with malicious damage, and breaching bail in relation to the prior incident at Alstonville.
A 16-year-old was also arrested, and granted conditional bail to appear at Ballina Children’s Court.
