HUNTER BAT SOLUTION CLOSER WITH LICENSE

A long term solution to the bat problem in Singleton’s Burdekin Park is closer, with the local council issued a license to help deal with the issue.

The Office of Environment and Heritage has granted Singleton Council permission to cut down trees or remove branches that have been inhabited by the colony.

At its peak it’s estimated 50,000 flying foxes called the park home, destroying some 40 trees.

Since several troublesome trees were removed a fortnight ago, the park has become noticeably quieter.
