COUNCIL DEFENDS CONTROVERSIAL SCULPTURE

After receiving a torrent of criticism online, Lake Macquarie Council today defended its latest public sculpture.
The artwork, which was unveiled last week, has come under fire for its rumoured price-tag.

Complete disregard for the ratepayers concerns. I don’t remember any consultation in regard to this sculpture, and as the road has been closed for everyone except EDI I believe it was constructed in stelth and unveiled without notice, it is quite ugly and having worked in that area will I’m sure be subjected to vandal attacks further depreciating the aesthetics of the area. I agree. That as council have removed so many trees a planting of greenery would have been more appropriate, and I found the Mayors comments that it is a structure for the future condescending and extremely inappropriate. I however applaud the road building it is about time.
