Police are appealing to the public for witnesses, after a man was found bleeding profusely from a wound to the back of his head in Belmont South on Sunday morning.
Two members of the public found the man at about 9.25, lying on the road in Green Street.
Paramedics treated the man before he was taken to John Hunter Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.
