NEW SCULPTURE PART OF LAKE MACQUARIE TRANSPORT INTERCHANGE
Lake Macquarie City Council has today unveiled the permanent sculpture in the centre of the roundabout at the intersection of Pennant Street, Stockland Drive and Glendale Drive.
The 26 tonne steel sculpture is said to symbolise the joining of Cardiff and Glendale, encapsulating new potential for growth in the area.
“The sculpture celebrates the improvement of connectivity and viability in the Hunter Region that would be created by the construction of the Pennant Street Bridge,” Mayor of Lake Macquarie, Cr Harrison, said.
The colours on the sculpture – burgundy red, khaki green and yellow – represent a mix of Council’s official logo colours and the town centres of Cardiff and Glendale.
Jointly funded by the Australian Government through the Regional Development Australia Fund, the artwork is part of the first stage of the Lake Macquarie Transport Interchange.
The construction of Section 2 of the Interchange includes the creation of the Pennant Street Bridge, aiming to assist the local community by cutting travel time and reducing congestion between Glendale and Cardiff.
