A Newcastle academic is urging the city’s planners to think outside the square when it comes to public transport.
Doctor Stephen Flemming believes creating safe cycleways needs to be a priority – so more people can ride instead of drive.

The CycleSafe Network group has been discussing just such a network with the state government and both Newcastle and Lake Macquarie councils. The plan has the support of the Heart Foundation, the Tom Farrel Institute for the Environment, the Property Council, the NRMA and BicycleNSW, and is rapidly gaining support right across the business community.
