ACTIVATE INCLUSIVE TEACHES KIDS BLIND SPORTS
A multi-disability sports program has kicked off in Tamworth today with the aim of getting young kids of all abilities involved in modified games.
Futsal, tennis, goal ball and cricket were on the agenda at the Sports Dome for a group of local students.
“We’re doing a lot of blind sports here today and the blind sports have bells in the ball adaptions, the tennis ball is a spongey ball.”
Sports New South Wales is working with the Department of Education to ensure all special needs students have access to opportunities like this.
“There isn’t always a lot of adaption in schools, and it’s really no one’s fault but it’s building awareness that there’s adaptive equipment out here and adaptive programs.”
It’s hoped a New England disability sports club will be formed in coming months.
