The campaign to ban slogan-covered campervans from the far north coast received a major boost today.
Byron Shire Council voted in favour of excluding the vans from caravan parks it operates… and setting up signs warning drivers the vehicles aren’t welcome.
The council will also write to the Premier, asking for the state government’s help to get them off the road.
Paul McCarthy, the grandfather who started the campaign, learned of the decision while speaking to NBN News.
“I think they had a mandate from the community to do that…”
“Enough’s enough. We’ve had enough. I think the community’s said it and stated it and now we’ve got to demonstrate it.”
Ballina Shire Council also agreed unanimously to adopt similar measures today.
