A man is lucky to be alive after fire destroyed part of his North Coast unit overnight.
Crews arrived at the Goonellabah home just before seven last night, to find smoke billowing from a bedroom window.
It took them just over an hour to bring the blaze under control.
The male in his fifties was taken to Lismore Base Hospital suffering smoke inhalation.
