JOYCE BACKS DECISION TO SCRAP SEAT BELT PROGRAM

Federal MP Barnaby Joyce says the decision to scrap a seat belt program in regional Australia was a consequence of cleaning up the country’s ‘financial mess.’
Last week’s budget reveal saw the $1 million a year subsidy to install seat belts on regional buses canned.
“When you’re trying to turn the debt around there’s going to be more people who are going to be affected than otherwise would be the case if the finances were under control, now we have halved the debt trajectory, one of the consequences of that is certain programs come to a conclusion.”
Over the past six years more than 400 buses have been fitted with seatbelts.
