HORROR START TO THE LONG WEEKEND ON OUR ROADS

The ANZAC long weekend has begun in a somber manner on our roads with three fatalities on Day 1 of Operation Go Slow in the Northern Region, including the death of a female pedestrian in Cardiff South early today.

The 44-year-old female was crossing First Street shortly before 1am, when she was struck by a sedan.

She was rushed to John Hunter Hospital, but later died from her injuries.

The 39-year-old male driver of the car was taken for mandatory testing.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and urge any witnesses to come forward.

Northern Region Statistics for Day 1 of Operation Go Slow:

  • 6300 breath tests
  • 4 people charged with drink driving
  • 207 speeding infringements
  • 13 major crashes
  • 3 fatalities including the death at Cardiff South this morning.

  1. I live on first st and cars drive up and down it at high speed all the time during the night something needs to be done to slow them down.
