ARMIDALE AND GUYRA RESIDENTS VOTE AGAINST MERGER

Northern Tablelands residents met for the first time last night to discuss the potential merger between Armidale and Guyra councils.

Armidale Ratepayers Association Chair Maria Hitchcock led the meeting, which attracted about 100 people.

When it was put to a vote, 65 Armidale residents were against the merger, while three supported it.

All Guyra residents who attended voted it down.

Ms Hitchcock is urging all residents to register for next Thursday’s public inquiry.
