Police are appealing for witnesses to a crash that killed a 76-year-old man near Tamworth.
At about 3.30pm yesterday a Hyundai Elantra was being driven north on Werris Creek Road, towards Tamworth, when it collided head on with a Hyundai i30.
The driver of the i30 died at the scene, his passenger, a 77-year-old woman, was taken to Tamworth Hospital with a possible broken eye socket and broken arm.
The 32-year-old driver of the other car was airlifted to John Hunter Hospital where he is in a critical condition, with serious internal injuries.
Police are particularly keen to speak to a man who witnessed the crash, but left the scene before police arrived.
