BELMONT HOTEL CLOSED AFTER FIRE

Close to 60 people were evacuated from a Belmont hotel last night after fire broke out in the basement.

Emergency services arrived at the Gunyah Hotel just before eight o’clock, to find the lower level alight.

No one was hurt in the blaze, but the upper levels suffered smoke damage.

Underground plumbing and electrical work was also affected, while furniture that was being stored ahead of renovations was destroyed.

The fire is NOT being treated as suspicious.
