LONE PINE PLANTED IN NEWCASTLE AHEAD OF ANZAC DAY
A special piece of ANZAC history has been returned to Newcastle, with the planting of a Lone Pine in Civic Park.
The tree replaces the city’s 50-year-old Lone Pine, which was planted in 1966 and toppled during last year’s April storms.
“We were saddened when the previous one was split in two during last year’s storms, and are just delighted to replace it as part of this year’s ANZAC commemorations,” Lord Mayor Nuatali Nelmes said.
“It will ensure the memory of lost servicemen and women continues to grow in our memory.”
The seedling is a decedent of the original Lone Pine at Gallipoli.

Everyone is invited to attend the Anzac Sunset Service in the War Memorial Grove, Civic Park, Newcastle, on Sunday, April 24th at 5.15. Candles will be lit in memory of those who died in war and students from the Hunter School of Performing Arts will present special tributes.
The lighting of candles will take place between 5PM and 5:30PM! The service will commence at 5:30 PM! This is a great family service to attend!
Quite upsetting that Newcastle Legacy was completely ignored in this story!
It was the original Legacy Tree that was damaged and taken down, and this Lone Pine Tree was planted to replace the Legacy Tree, and during this ceremony, Newcastle Legacy was ignored by NBN television, even though nearly all their staff and Legatees attended.
Very disappointing!
