EPA IMPOSES $15K FINE AFTER DISCHARGE

AGL Macquarie has been fined $15,000 by the New South Wales EPA, over the discharge of fly ash into Bayswater Creek.
The EPA was notified of the incident last December, when the company reported that a pipeline used to transfer the by-product had partially failed.
EPA Manager for the Hunter Region, Adam Gilligan, said AGL Macquarie responded quickly to the spill by stopping the flow of ash and arranging for the clean-up of Bayswater Creek.
In addition to the fine, the EPA also handed an Official Notice to AGL Macquarie and the environmental body is also considering imposing a further measures.
