More than 7000 people have signed a petition calling for murder accused, Benjamin Batterham, to be released from custody without charge.
It’s alleged Batterham murdered Ricky Slater during an apparent robbery in Newcastle, in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Emergency services found Mr Slater unresponsive when they arrived at the scene.
He was taken to John Hunter Hospital but later died when his life support was switched off.
The accused did not apply for bail and was formally refused, he’s expected to make an application on May 25.
Do you realise that this headline reads like the ‘murder accused’ is also the ‘apparent robber’, when this is NOT the case. Perhaps being more careful in future may be more prudent. This event will polarise the community. A headline with no bias would be a good start.
