OLD HYDRO ALUMINIUM SMELTER A STEP CLOSER TO REDEVELOPMENT

The old Hydro Aluminium Smelter near Kurri Kurri is a step closer to being redeveloped, with the state government conditionally approving plans to rezone the land.
The proposal, put forward by Cessnock and Maitland Councils, includes 280 hectares of industrial and residential land, as well as 900 hectares for environmental conservation.
The plan will be put on public exhibition, after modifications to land remediation plans and the addition of a flood-free access road.
