BIG GIRDER BLOCKS HIGHWAY NEAR BIG BANANA

The Pacific Highway traffic slowed to a crawl for most of the day following a road accident near the Big Banana in Coffs Harbour.
Two semi trailers travelling in tandem lost their load negotiating a bend in the highway when the hydraulics on one of the trucks failed around 6am.
A massive 40 metre long bridge girder slipped off and landed on the concrete median strip, blocking the inside lanes in both directions.
A magna sedan driven by a 70 year old man crashed into the highway divider seconds after the first accident but he was not seriously injured.
