Eight young cancer survivors’ stories are being told through their tattoos, at a photo exhibition at the Calvary Mater Hospital in Newcastle.
Each patient’s body art symbolises their determination and hardship, while also acting as a motivational tool.
Survivor Mark Matthews says his permanent ink is a reminder of not only his journey, but also of a friend who lost her battle with cancer.
“It’s art now and it allows people to express their feelings and show the journeys they’ve been on.”
The exhibition was carried out as part of a program helping young people recently diagnosed with cancer.
