TRAIN DERAILMENT AT KOORAGANG ISLAND

A train has derailed at a level crossing on Kooragang Island, closing Cormorant Road in both directions.

Motorists are advised to expect delays, with heavy traffic heading towards Newcastle Airport.

Diversions have been set up via Egret Street and Raven Street for Northbound traffic, and from Cabbage Tree Road to Tomago Road for Southbound traffic.

The derailment could have been rectified a lot earlier but due to the state government break up of the rail infrastructure several rail organisations had to get together to arrange the rerailing of the wagon, who had to put out the rail protection of the line, who is responsible for what area then arrange cranes etc then who has to pay the cost of it all.
    I have almost 18 years of working on the railways and I have witnessed first and second hand the downfall of the system.
    It would be much easier to show you than explain in an email.
