DRIVER HOSPITALISED AFTER CRASHING IN LAKE MACQUARIE POLICE PURSUIT

A man has allegedly posted speeds 40km/h above the limit in a stolen car during a police pursuit at Lake Macquarie last night.
At around 1:30am, police were patrolling in Redhead after a stolen and burnt out vehicle was found on Redhead Road a short time earlier.
They attempted to stop a gold Mazda driving on Heaney Lane, initiating a pursuit when the driver failed to stop.
The pursuit travelled through Redhead, Belmont, Marks Point, Blacksmith and Swansea, during which police allege the vehicle reached speeds up to 140km/h in a 100km/h zone on the Pacific Highway.
It ended when the Mazda crashed into a centre dividing barrier, and the driver and passenger, aged 18 and 22, were arrested at the scene.
The driver was taken to hospital under police guard for a head injury suffered in the crash, while the passenger was later released without charge.
Police say the Mazda was allegedly stolen from Redhead earlier that night.
