SPIKE IN CAR PROPERTY THEFTS IN THE RICHMOND COMMAND

Drivers are being urged to remove valuables and lock their cars after a 40 per cent spike in thefts in the Richmond Command in the past month.

Police say the robberies have been opportunistic, where items like purses, laptops, wallets and CD’s have been left clearly visible in unlocked cars.

“They’re also smashing windows to gain entry and often their smashing windows to steal little more than a dollar or two in change ”

Coastal carparks in Ballina and Lennox Head are hotspots, as well as Casino’s RV Park.

Police are now encouraging drivers to place these free cleaning cloths on the dash as a deterent for would-be thieves.

They’re available from your local police station.
