FOUR COUNCIL MERGER TO BE CONSIDERED

Tamworth MP Kevin Anderson has labelled Armidale-Dumaresq Council’s bid to merge with three councils as “predatory behaviour”.

Armidale councillors believe an amalgamation with Guyra, Uralla and Walcha would be more beneficial than with just Guyra alone.

“Walcha don’t want to go with Armidale, I’ve had a discussion with the Mayor and several councillors and the community about this issue, they still want to remain on track to stand alone.”

Council re-submitted the proposal to the Boundaries Commission this week for review.

“A delegate will be appointed to that process, it will run parallel with the existing fit for the future process.”
