HUNTER’S DRAYTON MINE TO BE SOLD
The Drayton coal mine in the Hunter Valley will close, with owner Anglo-American announcing it’s putting the site on the market.
The company says its focus has changed to consumer-driven materials, such as diamonds, copper and platinum, as opposed to coal.
The decision to sell comes just months after its proposed Drayton South expansion was rejected.
500 jobs will be lost.
Anglo-American says it will honour its $275-million rehabilitation requirements.
